Robin M. Katz is an archivist, librarian, and educator who connects people to primary sources in meaningful ways. She holds a BA from Brandeis University and an MLIS from Kent State University and is a full, career-status librarian at the University of California, Riverside. She served as Co-Director of the groundbreaking US Department of Education grant Students and Faculty in the Archives from 2011-2013. Based on this grant’s findings, she co-created the award-winning open educational resource TeachArchives.org. She was co-chair of the highly productive Teaching with Primary Sources committee when the Society of American Archivists honored them with the Council Exemplary Service award in 2017. From 2015-2017, she served on the joint task which authored the Guidelines for Primary Source Literacy, which were adopted in 2018. She co-chaired the 2021 national conference for the Rare Book and Manuscript Section of the American Library Association with the theme Power, Resistance, and Leadership. She regularly provides professional development to cultural heritage professionals, faculty, and teachers through opportunities such as her popular Primary Source Pedagogy course from Library Juice Academy. She is the world’s first primary source literacy librarian and is currently at work on a book based on the Guidelines tentatively titled 410 Measurable Learning Outcomes for Primary Source Literacy.
