Steven Weiss has been Curator of the Southern Folklife Collection at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill since 1999. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Audio Technology from American University and a Masters of Information and Library Studies from the University of Michigan. Prior to coming to UNC, Steven worked for the Bentley Historical Library at the University of Michigan (1995), the National Archives and Records Administration's Motion Picture, Sound and Video Branch (1996-1997) and CNN's Washington DC Bureau Library (1997-1999). He is an adjunct professor in UNC's SILS program and is active as a consultant. Steve currently oversees a three-year grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation focused on developing archival workflows for large scale digitization of audiovisual materials for preservation and access. His interests include crowdsourcing, social media, public programming, and publications.
