Drew Bourn has served as the Historical Curator at the Stanford Medical History Center since 2007. Previously he was one of the archivists at the Center for the History of Medicine at Harvard University. He has taught California history in the Stanford Continuing Studies program, served on the Board of Directors for the Stanford Historical Society, and acted as a pro-bono consultant to the GLBT Historical Society in San Francisco. For the federal government, he has acted as a reviewer of applications for two National Endowment for the Humanities grants: the Humanities Collections and Reference Resources grant and the Common Heritage grant. He was recruited during the Obama Administration by the US Department of the Interior as part of a group of historians who spearheaded its Heritage & History Initiative, "LGBTQ America." The resulting publication, "LGBTQ America: A Theme Study of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer History," is a reference tool for persons writing nominations for new national historic landmarks.
